Information we collect

Information you give us

When you email us or otherwise contact us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include. When the Vitrine Retirement Index needs-intake becomes available, families who use it may provide details such as care needs, budget range, geography, and timeline in order to receive a matched shortlist. Providing that information is always voluntary.

Your account, saved residences and the Connection Check

What we collect: your email address to sign in, and a password if you choose one. Our sign-in service stores only a one-way scrambled (hashed) form of your password, and we never see the password itself. If you use "Continue with Google", Google shares your name, email address and profile picture with our sign-in service, which keeps them with your account; we use only your email address. If you save a Connection Check, we also store who you answered for, your six answers, and any of province, city, timeline, budget range, care level and must-haves you chose. We never store a name, date of birth, address or contact detail for the person you answered about.

Why we collect it: to show you your saved result, and to understand, in aggregate only, which provinces families are searching in.

How long we keep it: 24 months after your last update, then it is deleted automatically; sooner if you delete a check in your account or ask us to delete your account.

Who processes it: Supabase, which hosts our database and sign-in service in its Canadian region; Google, only if you choose "Continue with Google", which confirms your identity to our sign-in service (your Google account itself is governed by Google's privacy policy); Resend, which sends our account emails (confirming your address and resetting your password) from servers in the United States; and Cloudflare, which delivers the website from servers around the world, so data in transit may pass outside Canada.

Your rights: you can see, correct or delete your information at any time from your account page or by emailing info@vitrineretirement.ca; you can withdraw consent by deleting the saved check.

Saved residences, what we collect: if you save a residence, we store which residence you saved and when.

Why we collect it: to show you your saved list.

How long we keep it: until you remove it from your account or your account is deleted.

Your rights: you can remove any saved residence from your account page.

Viewing the area report on a residence page while signed in stores nothing new.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, we may collect limited technical information such as pages visited and general, non-precise location, for security and to understand how the site is used. We keep this to the minimum needed to operate the site.

Searching near a place

If you search for residences near an address, town or postal code, your browser sends what you type to the Geolocator service run by Natural Resources Canada, which returns the place's map coordinates. If you type a postal code, only its first three characters are sent. Your browser then works out the distance to each residence. Vitrine does not receive or store what you type or the coordinates, and does not add them to the page address.

If you choose "Use my location", your browser asks for your permission first. Your location is used only in your browser to measure distances; it is not sent to Vitrine or to Natural Resources Canada.
