Two products, one pipeline: a free ranking for families and a market dataset for institutions.
The consumer product is free because institutional data licensing funds it.
Vitrine Retirement Index
A complete, free public register of every licensed retirement residence in Canada, ranked on each home's public record: in most provinces its inspections, compliance findings and enforcement, and how issues were resolved; in British Columbia its food-safety inspections and the complaints the province has substantiated; in Quebec what it declares to the province's registry. Price, care type and size are not part of the ranking. They are matching details, so they shape a family's shortlist through the needs questions (care requirements, budget, location and timeline) rather than a home's rank. The register covers all ten provinces. Where a province's public record does not yet support a fair score, a home reads “not yet scored”; the Methodology sets out what each province's score rests on.
Vitrine Seniors Housing Census
A national dataset that continues the discontinued CMHC Seniors' Housing Survey, covering residences, rents, and vacancy across all ten provinces. It is made available to institutions under licence, and the revenue funds the free consumer Index.
Access runs behind a firewall. A participating operator sees aggregate figures plus its own submitted data only, never a competitor's granular position. Demand-side information is released in aggregate only, with small-cell suppression and coarsened geography.

How it is funded
The free consumer layer is funded by licensing aggregated data to institutions, never by payments from operators. The full disclosure is on our Funding page.
